Analysing The Opening of Vertigo By Alfred Hitchcock

'Vertigo' was released in 1958 and is a psychological thriller starring James Stewart and Kim Novak directed by the famous Alfred Hitchcock. The film received mixed reviews upon initial release, but has garnered  acclaim since and is now considered one of the greatest films ever made.

Analysis of 'Vertigo' Opening:
  • Sinister music building up tension and suspense
  • Dramatic introduction of credits
  • Music continues to build up suspense as the tone softens and then becomes sharper in places, continuos graphic on the screen adds to the continuity of the clip.
  • The action is fast paced and dramatic, gun shots can be heard but not seen
  • Music adds to the drama and tension once more
  • Police chase then sets tone and pace of the clip
  • Clip then slows down, the music stops and changes to suit a much slower tone.
